Zoomii – Judge a Book By Its Cover…Online!
July 2, 2008
A new way to browse books on Amazon has recently been developed. The creator of Zoomii, a tool for browsing books graphically online, had in mind the idea that Internet book-buyers are interested in simply browsing shelves of books looking for material that stands out. With this idea in mind, Chris Thiessen developed Zoomii. Zoomii was just made public on June 16th and already is receiving a lot of attention. The basic concept is that Zoomii shows images of books placed in their respective categories on bookshelves similar to what would be encountered in a traditional book store. All the data is pulled from Amazon and is apparently kept up-to-date. Perhaps my favorite aspect of Zoomii is that a unique URL is created each time a user scrolls, zooms in, or does anything else, making it easy to share your findings. It’s lacking some things, however, as it’s pretty unusable upon zooming out. As a whole, though, it’s pretty cool: check it out!
