The Sure-fire Way to Free up 59GB of Hard Drive Space

September 15, 2009

You heard it right, folks. I’ve got the #1 way to instantly gain back 59GB of space on your hard drive. In one simple step, your computing opportunities will exponentially expand. What is this secret technique, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you: empty your Trash.

I’m a bit of a pack rat. I’ve owned my 20″ aluminum iMac since August 2007, and in that time I’ve emptied my Trash twice. I first took the plunge in August of 2008, clearing up 43GB. It’s not that I’m clingy, I’m just scared that I’ll someday discover that I need something that I deleted. I back-up as though my data was Fortune-500-important, so you would think that I’d be comfortable with emptying my Trash (which, of course, isn’t exactly the most powerful way to remove data), but I still have that lingering fear.

So this weekend I decided it had to be done. With only 5GB left on my 250GB hard drive, I couldn’t wait any longer. I desperately needed back the 81GB of space in my Trash. I’m not sure what happened to the extra 22GB, but I’m comfortable with the 59 I got. It took all night to delete the 42,009 items, but it was well worth it.
