The Best Firefox Extension, Bar None
August 29, 2009
I’ve often heard the questions, “What Firefox extensions do you use?” or “What is your favorite Firefox extension?” If I’m asked these questions, usually I answer something about Web Developer Toolbar or Greasemonkey or Adblock, or one of those other ones that everyone uses. Despite this, I use one extension that is above all others the most practical, Tree Style Tab. I’ve been using it for well over a year, and without question it is my favorite extension.
Tree Style Tab offers a very basic service: it converts the horizontal tab bar to a vertical one which it puts on the left or right sides of the browser window. Tabs then may possess parent and child tabs, creating organizable levels of content.
I use Tree Style Tab for one main reason: to open highly obnoxious numbers of tabs at any given time which I can easily organize and navigate. On average, I’ve got about 40 tabs open. Through my experiments, Firefox starts to slow down right around that 40 number, so I try to stay just under that. If that sounds like a huge mess to you, download Tree Style Tab. It will change your browsing experience.
