Shane Kills Me Every Time

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

I just finished reading Jesus for President by Shane Claiborne and Chris Haw. What a challenging book. I almost don’t understand any of it, yet I feel like I understand most of what he said. From the time I picked up the book to the time I put it down, I felt as though Shane was saying that almost as (or equally as, or more) important as placing faith in Jesus is living out that faith in Jesus as a radical disciple. Kinda reminds me of The Divine Conspiracy (or at least the Introduction, which is as far as I’ve read). I’d love to go into more detail at a later point, but I’ll leave it at that for now. I definitely recommend picking up the book, though.

Verizon Dare vs. Apple iPhone

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

I feel like to even compare anything else to an Apple product is blasphemy. I am a Windows user, despising Vista and everything Microsoft, but I do have an iPod, and I decided to go with the Verizon Dare over the iPhone. Here are my reasons to getting it:

1. My old phone was a Razr…

2. I can afford to carry a little technological gadget

3. My girlfriend has Verizon so to avoid cross carrier charges and running up of my bill, it saves me significant money in the long run.  Case closed.

I am pretty happy with my Dare. I love the qwerty keyboard and the touch screen. I love that I have GPS at my fingertips. I like the size. I like the expandable memory (4 GB for 9.99 on ebay). It does everything I need it to. My only significant complaint it that its not compatible with iTunes. The email feature could be a little better as well. If I get bombarded with a million, the Dare sucks, the iPhone is better comments. So be it, I will enjoy the traffic.

Another Review Coming Soon

Friday, August 15th, 2008

The other day I wrote up a quick review for the beta iPhone app Proxymind. I’ve just been notified that I’ll be getting the opportunity to review a completely different product, a soon-to-be-released book. I’m pretty excited about this. Scot McKnight, professor/speaker/author/blogger, has just finished his new book, The Blue Parakeet: Rethinking How You Read the Bible, and will be releasing it in November. The other day he announced an offer on his blog for 20 bloggers to receive early copies and then blog about the book. I went for it and received an email today asking for my mailing address. All that to say, stay tuned. I’ll be reading the book in the next two or three weeks (once I get it, that is), and writing about it soon after.

Some Initial Thoughts About Proxymind

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Proxymind LogoI mentioned that I’d be beta testing the location-aware GTD iPhone app, Proxymind, in the next couple of days. I’ve just started playing with it, but I’d like to make note on some of my initial thoughts on Zykloid‘s newest application. Before I do, though, I wanted to give a quick explanation as to what Proxymind is.

The basic concept behind Proxymind is that lots of GTD/to-do list applications exist for the iPhone, but no application makes good use of the location-aware abilities of the iPhone. With that, Proxymind aims to prioritize items based on location rather than importance. I think this idea makes a lot of sense as it allows users to do items or run errands that will take less time based on the distance an item is from the current location. Here are some of my thoughts:

Proxymind Beta Product Review Coming Soon

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Proxymind LogoI was recently accepted into the beta test for a location-aware GTD iPhone application called Proxymind. In the next few days, I’ll be trying it out. Proxymind was created by Zykloid, the same company that developed one of my favorite Shareware applications, Posterino, and that is why I’m interested in it. I’ll be reviewing it in the next couple of days.
