I’m looking for advice on what statistics tool I should use for this site. In the past I’ve used Statcounter, Google Analytics, WordPress’s statistics plugin, and the Firestats WordPress plugin. I’m kinda happy with Statcounter, but there’s got to be something better. Any recommendations?
I came across some new thing from Google the other day. It’s called Lively, and I’m not exactly sure what it is. It looks like a Second Life clone, but it also appears to be based on the idea of a chat room. In my younger days, I used to play The Sims Online (which was, in my defense, much cooler than The Sims, which I had never played), and we would describe it as a glorified chat room to people who were unfamiliar with it. It looks as though Lively is even more of a glorified chat room than TSO, which I think is pretty impressive. I’d like to try it out, but for now it’s Windows-only and I am Mac-only. Oh well. Maybe someday.
WordPress 2.6 was recently released. I expected a few minor updates after WordPress 2.5 was released, but I was pleasantly surprised with some of the features provided in 2.6. I’m particularly fond of the theme preview feature and post revision management. The thing that intrigues me the most, though, is the integration with Gears. I haven’t really seen too many applications make use of Gears yet, but I suppose in the near future more companies will be rolling out products that work well with it. I haven’t upgraded yet, but when I return from a weekend trip I’ll be working on that on this and another site I manage.
I ran in that Independence Day 5k. My targeted time was like 20-22 minutes. Actual time? 26:54. Not quite what I had hoped, it didn’t help that it was pouring rain – and my shoes felt like bricks by the time I get to the halfway point. For future reference, I will also, next time I run in something like this, train by running in the morning. I had been running at night, and it completely threw me off – that, combined with the poor breakfast attributed to my mediocre if not downright stinky time.
Lessons learned:
Do not run on cereal, train in the mornings so your body gets used to it, do not start training 6 days before the race, get some real running shoes.
